I used Sulfur found at a garden supply store, Air Float Charcoal, and Technical Grade KNO3. I milled it for about 2 hours or so and then added 5% dextrin and granulated it. Its surprisingly underwhelming.

No one made BP in old school way... Wooden mallet in a big stone mortar, 5 to 10 % moisture minutes of hammering for gram. For century BP was made like that. The time required for a usable BP (12 to 15 shell weight) is far less than ball mill. Obviously with ball mill BP is far better and safe to make.

It took me less than 10 minutes of labor, and basically most of that was making the pucks and corning the powder after the ball mill did it's thing for 24 hours. If I had a larger rock tumbler I could have probably made 10, or even 20 lbs of black powder with not much labor investment.
